Day 149: The Running infection spreads

by sunny on August 30, 2011

I did it!  He caught the bug!

After hiking to the crag on Friday, Brenton mentioned to me, “I need to build up some cardiovascular strength.”  He was gasping for air at this point.  The hike had been steep and Brenton was carrying Samuel.

On the way home, Brenton said, “I’m going to need some different shoes so I can start running.”

On Saturday, he doubled his shoe collection.  Now he has a pair of boots and a pair of running shoes.

Now to map out my training plan for him.

My training regiment consisted of running Monday through Friday. I went from a 23:30 mile and a half to a 12:30 mile and a half in about 5 weeks. My goal everyday was to run a little faster than the day before. Also I weight lifted every other day. Monday I did arms and chest, Wednesday I worked on my core, and Friday I did legs. All of this was done indoors on modern gym equipment. I found when I went outside after trying all of this that I improved my time, but it was much harder to breathe. I think the breathing part was due to the cold air I was inhaling.
